I've owned this jacket for a few years and have used it on a few occasions hunting. Typically shorter duration rain events, but nothing with sustained rains. I did an adventure race over Memorial Day weekend and the forecast looked like a lot of rain/wet snow. I left my ultralight rain gear behind with this forecast and grabbed my Dewpoint jacket and pants instead.

I feel I'm much better able to give a thorough review now. On day three of the event, it rained pretty straight for 14 hours, sometimes pouring. This is fighting through blowdown, fording creeks and rivers and about half the day on snow. The Dewpoint set performed beyond my expectations. I was worried about snagging the jacket and pants crawling through blowdown, but came away without a scratch. While I was wet when fording streams (often to my thighs) I stayed warm and the pants did dry quickly. My torso remained warm and dry the entire time.

The Dewpoint system works!

Excellent jacket. Not sure why there are complaints about noise as it is a hardshell and makes far less noise than other hardshells. Went with the LT size and it fits excellent over a kelvin light down, no restriction at all. I’m 6’ right around 200 with a 34” waist and the fitment is perfect for use with or without layers.

Went on a moose hunt in New Foundland this past Oct. It rains, drizzles, and fogs almost everyday. I have to say after doing a lot of research, I finally went with the Dew Point system. It was incredible. It really would have been miserable if I had gotten wet for the amount of hours I spent out in the field. It kept me dry in every situation...no BS. It also was very rugged. I walked through the thickest brush you could imagine for 5 straight days for 12 hours a day. It was impressive. Hope this helps you make a decision.

This jacket is by far the best jacket I have ever owned. It is lightweight, and ousts the rain and wind. I will definitely be purchasing another one. Sizing best fits with your T-Shirt size in my opinion.

Awesome rain layer! Does exactly what you would want a rain jacket to do. Also very compressible and easy to stow away in a pack! It is pretty loud when moving around, and makes spot and stalk situations pretty tough.

I really like this coat. Best fit of any coat I've used and did a great job of keeping me dry from the outside and venting my sweat from the inside. I hiked a lot of miles in it, and it was comfortable. It also worked as a wind stop layer over my puffy, though the fit over the puffy was a bit tight, that was to be expected and is acceptable when stationary. My only complaint is the noise of the fabric. Probably can't wear it on a tight quarters whitetail hunt, but not really an issue in the mountains.

This is a great jacket! I live in Kodiak and just used it on a weekend hunt. It is lightweight, durable and having the vents are very helpful if you start to overheat. At one point we found ourselves bushwhacking through thick patches of alder and devils club. After looking it over I don’t see a single snag on it. During the hunt we encountered sustained winds of 30mph gusting up to 45mph. This did a great job of protecting me from the elements. I do think one additional adjustment in the hood to allow it tighten around your face more would have been helpful. Strong headwinds would blow the hood off my head so I found myself having to hold it in place with one hand.

I ordered the Dew Point pants and Jacket on a recommendation from Sitka during a phone call. I was excited about the light weight of the set for my archery elk hunt but was very disappointed in the noise associated with the garments. Luckily, we only had rain during one night of our trip and my dad had an extra pair of rain suede style pants that I wore to stay dry walking the next morning. I don't doubt that the Dew Point rain gear will keep you dry. I would not recommend it however, for anything other than a rifle hunt where you can keep your distance from your target. Upon arriving, my guide asked which rain gear I had and when I told him he rolled his eyes and said, we won't kill anything if you have to put that stuff on. Apparently, during the previous week a hunter had the same gear and wasn't able to close on some elk due to the noise. Like I mentioned, I'm sure it will keep me dry but, I will be using it mostly on my skiff while guiding fly fishing trips instead of on archery hunts.

First off I'm 6' 200lbs with a 34" inseam and waist. Purchased this as a cover to my warm clothing for inclement weather protection in upstate NY. I purchased this specifically because it was the standard fit. The large fits very snug. With a wick away base layer, polypro long sleeve and thin wool sweater felt too tight once I put the jacket over everything. The length was shorter than I wanted for rain/wind protection. For me, it came to just below my belt. I'll be returning it for an XL. Also this jacket is very light. Think windbreaker light. I have concerns about durability.

I am satisfied with this coat. Although is appears to be of good quality the sizing is definitely off the mark. I am 5'10 200 lbs and I fit size large in literally every single piece of clothing I own including jackets and other premium rain suits I own. I ordered size large in the Dew point and when it arrived I was disappointed to find that I could barely zip up the jacket, to the point that the only way I could wear it with any comfort was with the arm pits zippers open fully and only with a tee shirt underneath! My son ended up getting the coat and it fits his size medium frame perfectly, with enough room to layer if needed!

I am incredibly disappointed that I had to order a size X large, pay for duty, shipping and tax a second time to get a jacket that I need to fit me. I really had no choice seeing as that I actually order the pants on the first order as well, which I might add fit perfectly!

OVERALL:
Waterproof 5.0
Quality 4.0
Price 4.0
Quietness of material 3.5 (important feature for hunting)
Ease of order & delivery 5.0

I would still recommend Sitka and this product.

I have owned several quality raincoats over the years. I feel that this one excels in packability and the hood. The jacket packs down for days when you are trying to pack light. The hood is not too big. It gives you a full range of vision. Some other jackets make it feel like you have blinders on. Not the Dew Point. I look forward to getting the pants soon.

All of the specs on this new piece seem to be everything a backcountry hunter could hope for in packable rain gear. However, regretfully SITKA has neglected the slim crowd again and failed to produce this garment in a medium tall.

Unpredictable: 18 Days in the Backcountry

Unpredictable. That’s how I’d describe my life as a freelance photographer and filmmaker. A lifelong thirst for bowhunting in the mountains, and tendency to say “yes” before asking questions, has landed me in a variety awe-inspiring locations and momentous misadventures. I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything, and they’ve always prepared me for going into another unknown.
