Why We Made This
When designing the Apex system, we obsessed on scent, sight and sound: the three enemies of the discerning bow hunter. We built the Apex Hoody with a hybrid merino wool and nylon construction to make this piece as quiet as possible. The merino wool delivers natural odor control for extended hunts, and the breathable nylon delivers high-performance durability. A zippered kangaroo pocket with built-in organizer muzzles rattling gear, and an integrated face mask delivers maximum concealment. Reinforced shoulders limit abrasion from pack straps, while integrated elbow pads aid in crawling–keeping you focused on the approach.

This is my go to piece of Sitka gear. I can use it from early dove season in the beginning of September, through bow season and then as a layer when out duck hunting from the boat blind or even for whitetail. I love the big pouch on the front because it can easily hold my gloves and other goodies to save room in my back. The integrated face mask is my favorite part. I wish I could get this on ALL of my gear. I like that I can choose to use it or keep it back for times when it isn't necessary. It gets a lot of use for duck hunting. I cannot wait to use it for spring gobbler season. I wish it came in women's sizing.
I have used this hoodie for early season waterfowl and shooting at the sporting clays range (I like a light weight hood for sun/wind). I later it now with the lightweight hoodie under it, and a light merino wool long sleeve shirt. I have been using it on almost every waterfowl hunt this season. The divided pockets are great for keys, shells, small batteries, etc. the hood wears a bit different than others, but is a good fit over a hat or beanie. I have been requesting front hand pockets on every Sitka hoodie/shirt (as well as other higher end hunting companies) and have not had much luck. I took it upon myself to buy a few cheaper pieces of Sitka shirts in matching Camo and tailor a front hand pocket, in addition to the zip (I’ve also made one for the lightweights, makes grabbing phone, keys, headlamp, small gear so much easier and quicker.). Sitka needs to add this detail on all their hoods and shirts. I would like to see this and the fanatic in a larger selection of pattern and solid color options as well. It is a solid piece for early season waterfowl and to layer further into the season.
I wanted to purchase this hoody after my brother was ranting and raving about it being his new favorite top. I'll start by saying that the top seems to fit true to size for Sitka sizing. My brother and I are both about 5'11 and I am 165 lbs. (he is roughly 15 lbs heavier than I). When trying on his large which fits him great, I felt like I was swimming in the chest area. With this in mind, I thought maybe I could go to our local store and try on a medium, but the sleeve and torso length was far too short on the standard medium. Truly wish Sitka would make this piece (and more pieces for that matter) in a medium-tall as I am sure it could likely become my new favorite piece as well. Unfortunately though, the fit of the standard sizing just doesn't work for my frame.
My favorite piece for turkey season. The hood and facemask eliminate the need to worry about having to slip one real quick. Temperature ranges quiet abit during spring and this does very well in the conditions I hunted. The subalpine pattern has proven to fool the eyes of turkeys in all environments better than traditional camo patterns even in the southeast region, it definitely breaks your pattern up better.
Brilliant. I can't think of a single negative.

The Apex Hoodie is wonderful! It retains heat extremely well and just kills it with that built in face mask. The hoodie does fit very true to size, so if you plan on layering it I’d size up one size. I normally wear an XL, but a 2XL gives me room to wear a quarter zip or a hoodie underneath it. Great product!
Perfect late September hoodie. Has features others don’t. Only compliant is the hood is a little too tight.
I went on elk archery trip and this hoody was amazing. It was an early sept hunt with temps 25-75 in the same day. Honestly, I did not need much else as this hoody would keep me warm and shed sweat during the move. Only complaint is that it fits big compared to other sitka gear items. Very durable and would buy it again in a heart beat.
Spent 15 days in September in temps from freezing to 75 on Idaho archery deer hunt. The Hoody wore very well. No damage or fading (washed 4 times). Paired with the merino core lightweight, functioned well in those temps. Dries fast. Not super warm but good for active hunter. Used a jacket over both for stationary glassing in the colder temps or breezy. Smell not a problem but I did wash every 3-4 hunting days. Only problem was elbow pads would rotate off the elbow on occasion and I needed to adjust back in place.
Best piece of hunting gear/clothing I have purchased in years. I wore it every day with a vest when it was really cold. Never needed to remove it as it maintains your body temperature from cold 30 degrees mornings to warmer mid 60's afternoons. Best feature is hoodie with facemask. allows you the ability to set-up quickly and easily. No need for a separate facemask as this one works great and doesnt slide around. I am hoping Sitka will produce in open terrain as well. Best piece they offer.
For some reason its only allowing me to give a value of 4 stars. This is absolutely a 5 star piece of clothing. I hunted for 10 days in Idaho. The mornings were very cold and the afternoons were warmer. I wore this the entire time with a merino lightweight long sleeve under it. My brother wore a competitors outfit and was constantly adding and removing clothing. He kept asking are you not hot, are you not cold. I was always perfect. By day 3 we made a 2 hour trip and he purchased the same outfit. It is the best. The fit and the types of fabrics they used are amazing. Expensive....yes, but absolutely worth it. I would love to have this in every color.
This is my favorite Sitka piece I own as far as fit goes. The sizing is true. I wear an XL (47" chest) and this is a perfect fit. It is not loose and not tight either. It does not drape on your body so it should be perfect for bows. I think the hood is one of the best in the Sitka line. it fits great and the front comes down lower than my other Sitka hoodies. With the facemask on and hood up you have a small slit for the eyes and if you wear a hat the opening can get even smaller. The kangaroo pocket is nice and probably more practical than side pockets but I would prefer side pockets. It is not a deal breaker but would be nice to have.
As far as warmth goes I would say it will be good down to "cool" weather. Its thin enough to be a base layer as well.

A Tale of Two Roars
Rustic wooden gates groaned open as our Toyota HiLux rumbled through. We navigated the rutted, winding dirt road; every pothole and washboard negotiated revealing another layer of the towering Andes Mountains. A gin-clear river meandered through the valley floor. Willows on the cusp of fall color shimmered in the cool afternoon breeze. This was the start of the annual breeding season for red deer in northern Patagonia—also known as the roar.

Apex Hoody and Pants are my GO TO favorite pieces to wear from SITKA. Super comfortable and warm on cool days and cool on hot days. I love the APEX system and when paired with the Kelvin Active Hoody you are solid for a wide range of temperatures without needing to strip layers off or search for a puffy when sitting still. If I wasn't already so in love with the setup I have, I would add the Ambient Hoody to the mix, but I just can't see myself not wearing the Apex Hoody since its such an amazing piece.
This is an amazing hoodie for early season archery. It is very breathable, comfortable and versatile enough so I can wear it when temps cool down or heat up.
Picked up this top to complement my core lw hoody on cooler spring mornings. The material is durable and super quiet. The kangaroo pouch is great for holding calls or your phone if you want to run light. Love the built in face mask. The back runs a little longer, which is nice for long sessions sitting against a tree.
This might be one of the best top ever designed by anyone.
Priced a bit on the high side perhaps but still worth it.
I use it year around.
My only wish is that this great piece of hunting gear had holes for the thumbs at the end of selves like so many other pieces of gear from Sitka
If Sitka would have done that this would be the ultimate piece of hunting clothing hands down.
